The Challenge
College students make hundreds of economic decisions daily—not just about money, but about time, energy, and attention. However, traditional financial literacy programs often feel disconnected from students' lived experiences and fail to address the behavioral patterns that drive everyday decision-making.
Johnson C. Smith University sought an engaging, research-driven approach to help undergraduate students understand how behavioral economics affects their daily choices and long-term outcomes.
Our Approach
NeuroFin developed a multi-duration, interactive presentation system that introduces behavioral intelligence through the lens of everyday economic decisions. By leveraging 100+ years of behavioral economics research, we created a relatable framework centered on the four critical resources students manage:
- Time - Managing workload, procrastination, and time blindness
- Energy - Addressing burnout and decision fatigue
- Attention - Understanding the attention economy and choice overload
- Money - Navigating student loans, mental accounting, and FOMO
The presentation featured JCSU's distinctive navy and gold branding, current 2025 statistics relevant to Gen Z college students, and interactive reflection questions to drive engagement.
The Solution
We delivered a React-based presentation platform with three duration options (15, 30, and 60 minutes) to accommodate different event formats. Each version maintained the core behavioral intelligence frameworks while adapting depth and interactivity to the time available.
Key Features:
- Multi-duration system (15/30/60 minutes) from a single codebase
- Interactive engagement with Firebase-powered reflection questions
- Minimal text, bold statistics, elegant design aesthetic
- Coverage of major frameworks from bounded rationality to prospect theory
- Real-world applications for college students at HBCUs
- Comprehensive speaker notes and reference materials
Impact
The presentation transformed complex behavioral economics concepts into accessible, actionable insights that resonated deeply with JCSU students. By connecting academic research to everyday decisions—from choosing a major to managing social media use—students gained practical tools for improving their economic outcomes.
"The most engaged presentation we've had. Students were captivated by seeing their own behaviors explained through behavioral science."
